The Bumpy Chronicles – Part 2

So, I’m writing this blog post at exactly 31 weeks (scary how time flies!!) and things are quickly becoming very real!
The nursery is almost done. We’ve emptied the guest bedroom, un-diyed (taken apart) the bed and bedside cabinets, painted and had new laminate flooring put down. Lovely. But as soon as furniture, pictures and the curtains went in to make the room feel more like an actual bedroom rather than just a re-decorated room it hit me. An actual human baby would soon be my responsibility. That is after all the horror of childbirth which was discussed earlier in the day at this week’s antenatal class which I’m trying to put to the back of my mind!

Anyway, not to get bogged down with gross pregnancy stuff (who knew a placenta smoothie was a thing?!), Bumpy’s room is almost done and I am super happy and proud of it. It is all our own work apart from the flooring (we are not diy-ers AT ALL!). We have gone for a Winnie the Pooh theme with mint green (Willow Tree to be precise) and grey colour scheme. The wardrobe is in and we are waiting for the matching cot and changing table to come back into stock. I’ve been told it will be back in stock at the end of July which makes me a little uncomfortable but what can you do?! And then it is all done and ready. We have a few more bits to get but other than the cot and changing table it is just small bits and bobs. Mainly a huge supply of nappies and such things!

I was promised 2 things at the start of my pregnancy by my husband. A rocking / gliding chair for the nursery and a paddling pool as I knew I was going to be super pregnant during July and August. He has followed through on that promise in the past week and I now have a pool and my chair which I am fantastically grateful for. I do feel however that I may fall asleep in both of them given time!
As for everything else pregnancy related, I have been told he is doing well as far as they can tell and that I am a star patient! I’ve had all my jabs, my skin is ‘looking lovely’ and even scored compliments on my maternity leggings (H&M for anyone interested!) So far, so good!

We went to our second antenatal class this afternoon. I didn’t know what to expect after leaving the first session feeling like the smartest and smuggest person on earth because I was one of only two people (the other being my husband) that felt confident enough to shout out an answer to ‘Name me a fruit or vegetable’. I felt like a pro at this pregnancy lark when I left that session. The second session was different. It was all about labour and the actual giving birth side of things. It was a very informative session and I learned a lot. I now have a good idea of what to expect and what level of pain relief I’d like in an ideal situation rather than my original birth plan of simply ‘Give me ALL the drugs!!’
So, we are on to the really serious bit now, packing my hospital bag (any comments on things I may have forgotten are much appreciated) and preparing for a new chapter in our lives. I may still have 9 weeks to go but we are determined to be super prepared and ready for whenever the time might come. I’m not sure of my ratio of excitement to fear right now but I’d say excitement is winning currently but only just! I’ll try and post one my Bumpy update before he arrives and put up some photos on of the finished nursery but if I go quiet for a while, you know where I am!
